James D. Hicks (church organ)______________________American organist James D. Hicks has researched the music of the Nordic lands over the past fifteen years, and the resulting Nordic Journey recording and publishing project has grown to fifteen volumes encompassing twenty-three discs of music. The series has three goals: the first of which includes the creation of new music, and James has commissioned over sixty compositions from contemporary Nordic artists. Five of these works are included on this program. Secondly, James has researched unexplored creations from the past and has included numerous premiere recordings of works that have hitherto been unpublished or forgotten. Finally, he has included a few standard masterworks from the Romantic Era in the Nordic Journeyseries.

James has selected a "North Atlantic" program for the 2025 Summartónar that celebrates the culture of these interconnected lands.  The Nordic Journey recordings may be accessed on Spotify and the usual digital platforms and The Nordic Journey Series, a collection of three hardbound volumes including many of these works that James has commissioned and researched is published by Norskmusikforlag. For more information about James D.
